The Women's History Archive

The Women's History Archive is the repository of a large number of varied sources on the history of women. To mention a few:

* Women's private papers, such as letters and diaries.
* Plays, poems and stories by women.
* Minutes of meetings and other information about women's associations, including the Red Stocking Movement and the Women's Alliance.
* Newspaper clippings about the history of women, gender research, the struggle for equal rights, interviews with women.

The mission of the archive is to collect, register and preserve records of the history of women, both past and present. The archive acts as a centre for the dissemination of information about the history of women, helps find sources in this area, and encourages research on women's concerns.

University and upper secondary school students, professionals and scholars in the area of women's studies and gender research, and others interested in the history of women turn to the archive for information and support . The archive also answers questions from individuals writing articles and books. Though most of the archive's material is in Icelandic, the staff are glad to help interested persons find material in other languages and to help with translation as necessary.

The Women's History Archive is located in the National and University Library and is open weekdays.
